Professional associations in most countries require their members to undertake a specific number of hours of accredited training or “continuing professional development (CPD)”.

Since 2002, VinciWorks has been the only private company accredited by the Hong Kong Law Society to operate an online CPD service. VinciWorks does this through its learning portal at www.CPDonline.com.hk. To date VinciWorks has provided CPD courses to over 140 of the 672 law firms in Hong Kong. This included many of the largest international firms.

In response to demand from OCC firms VinciWorks has collaborated with OCC firms and has selected 12 courses (15 hours) of jurisdictionally independent courseware and made these courses available to OCC firms. The courses fall under the following categories:

• Company Financial Statements
• The Valuation Process
• Joint Ventures Overview
• Drafting Review for Commercial Lawyers
• Negotiating Review for Commercial Lawyers
• Marketing Review for Commercial Lawyers

Most if not all OCC firms have well established training departments and offer a extensive range of classroom based CPD training courses. However, these firms are licensing this online training library as:

• part of their induction or pre-induction training programmes for trainees and other new starters; and
• a last-minute safety net for those fee-earners who for whatever fail to earn their full quotient of CPD points during the CPD year i.e. prior to 31st October.

These CPD courses integrate with the OCC Learning Management System so all user data, scores, CPD points etc. are tracked.
